Energy efficiency investment fund launched in London

Thursday, September 15th, 2011

London Mayor Boris Johnson has launched a new fund for public sector organisations to make their buildings more energy efficient and reduce carbon emissions.

The London Energy Efficiency Fund offers cheap loans for organisations such as hospitals, local authorities and police and fire stations to install energy efficiency equipment in their premises.

The fund offers loans of between £3 million and £10 million for installing measures such as energy efficient lighting systems, upgrading boilers and fitting smart meters. It is expected that NHS Trusts, housing associations and organisations in the voluntary sector will be among those which will borrow money from the fund.

Currently, 10 per cent of all carbon emissions in the capital come from public sector buildings alone so reducing emissions from these buildings is vital to help the city reduce its carbon footprint.

However, it is not just large organisations who should look to cutting their CO2 emissions. Smaller businesses can also have a positive impact on the environment by reducing their carbon emissions.  Employing the services of a company which offers environmental consultancy services such as Apollo Enviro can help you find areas were you could reduce your carbon emissions.

From installing voltage optimisation units to reduce the energy used by a business’ equipment, to organising environmental awareness workshops to show employees how small changes to their habits can make a big difference, Apollo Enviro can help businesses reduce their carbon footprint and maybe even save money on their energy costs.
